Whether you are looking for ways to improve your resume, network, or simply get a taste of what your chosen business field is all about, joining a professional business association is a great tool for professional development and career planning while pursuing your bachelor’s in business.

A professional association is generally a nonprofit organization aimed at advancing a specific profession as well as aid an individual’s own professional development through provision of resources and networking opportunities. In business, professional organizations exist within many industries but are usually dedicated to specific fields such as marketing, accounting, business management, human resources, etc.

  • American Management Association (AMA) – American Management Association is a world leader in professional development, advancing the skills of individuals to drive business success. The AMA’s student membership costs $95 and its benefits include subscriptions to members-only publications, access to feature web content, and various event and purchase discounts.
  • The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) – Since 1970, IABC has served professionals in the field of business communication, offering educational resources, certification, awards programs, publications and its annual World Conference. Its student membership costs $49, offering a range of educational and career training programs.
  • The American Marketing Association (AMA) ­– The mission of AMA is “to be the most relevant force and voice shaping marketing around the world; an essential community for marketers.” Students who join the AMA collegiate chapter affiliation can benefit from access to a range or resources as well as experiential learning and leadership development opportunities.

At Assumption College, bachelor’s of business students have an opportunity to join student chapters of several leading professional business organizations The student chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA), known as the Greyhound Association for Marketing Enrichment (GAME), has been recognized for outstanding chapter planning among some of the region’s top schools. Assumption also has a club for students interested in Accounting.
